Under the direction of the Peninsula Agency on Aging (PAA), the greater Williamsburg area is leading the Commonwealth in the implementation of Virginia ’s “No Wrong Door” project. No Wrong Door is an initiative to simplify and improve service delivery to Virginia ’s older and/or disabled adult population through enhanced communication processes among service providers. The project is a highly collaborative effort between multiple state agencies, local agencies and private partners.

The No Wrong Door initiative will include the introduction of a web-based software tool for providers to assist them with Information and Referral and, where applicable, Case Management to individuals requiring this assistance.  This software creates a “one-stop” service approach and ensures that everyone has the same access to information and resources on long-term support services, regardless of their first point of entry into the system.  The software is designed to provide efficient coordination of client information, service referral and case management while complying with all privacy issues. In short, it uses technology to effectively share knowledge, unite multiple services and providers, and simplify processes for both the consumer and provider.

The No Wrong Door initiative was created through a federal grant by the Administration on Aging  The grant, to establish Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC's), has been awarded in 43 states and each state has its own approach to developing the ADRC.  Virginia has chosen to develop a de-centralized model using the variety of public and private service providers in each region served by an Area Agency on Aging.

PAA is fortunate to have the interest and funding support of the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation to include non-state agencies in this pilot project. In 2008, PAA will recruit, at no cost to the service provider, participants in the pilot project in service areas such as:

  •  In-Home Health Care
