What is MEDTRAN?

MEDTRAN is a premiere non-emergency medical transportation program for Peninsula seniors who have no existing resources or alternatives. Its distinctiveness lies in the fact that seniors are transported solely by a team of caring and dedicated volunteers.  The MEDTRAN service is the preferred mode of transportation by seniors as our volunteers provide a personalized, door-to-door service in their own vehicles.  MEDTRAN provides a safe and reliable access to non-emergency medical care for seniors 60 and over.

Service is provided in the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and York County Monday through Friday.

MEDTRAN has partnered with Williamsburg Faith In Action to provide similar non-emergency medical transportation to seniors in Williamsburg and James City County.

MEDTRAN began in July 2002 with funding provided by the Virginia Health Care Foundation.  Additional support has been obtained from United Way, Sentara, and Older American’s Act funds.
