6th Annual Soup For The Caregivers’ Soul

November is National Family Caregiver Month. Join The Peninsula Task Force On Aging for their 6th annual Soup For The Caregivers’ Soul event. A heartwarming event for family caregivers and those who support them. We will honor and celebrate the exceptional family caregivers and organizations in our community who demonstrate great strength and perseverance as they selflessly work to care for others.

Williamsburg – Family Caregiver Lunch & Learn Series

All sessions, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, to be held at Thomas Nelson Workforce Center, 4135 Ironbound Road, Berkshire Hathaway-Towne Realty Building, 2nd Floor in Williamsburg, Virginia.

  • Tuesday, October 10, 2017: Technologies-Inexpensive Gadgets That Can Make Your Life Easier
    Staff from the Virginia Assistive Technology System (VATS) will share gizmos and gadgets that can make your life easier. You’ll have a chance to try out a variety of “tools” that can be used around the house to improve your reach and mobility.
  • Tuesday, November 14, 2017: Take Care to Give Care – Celebrating the Caregiver in You!
    Please join us to learn ways you can take better care for yourself and learn of community resources to help make your lives a bit easier.”

Hampton – Family Caregiver Lunch & Learn Series

All sessions, Fridays – 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, to be held at Thomas Nelson Community College Workforce Development, 600 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA, Conference Room #1301-1303

  • Friday, October 6, 2017: Fall Prevention
    Falls can cause serious injury and disability. A physical therapist will discuss fall risk factors and demonstrate techniques for safely lifting and transferring your loved ones.
  • Friday, November 3, 2017: Communicating with Curiosity and Empathy
    Learn some simple strategies for having conversations that can help you understand what your loved one wants and needs while giving you the same opportunity to express yourself. Using curiosity and empathy, win-win solutions become more achievable.
  • Friday, December 1, 2017: Caregiver Resource Fair
    Hear from a panel of providers about various respite and community programs and resources available for family caregivers.

PAA Events - Chair Yoga

Recurring Event – Chair Yoga & Meditation

Peninsula Agency on Aging has partnered with Shanti Garudasana, Inc., a non-profit promoting mindful movement, to offer a weekly Chair Yoga class. People with chronic pain and challenges with balance are welcome.

Location: Peninsula Agency on Aging-Williamsburg Office, 312 Waller Mill Rd., Williamsburg, 23185 (Off Bypass Rd.)

When: Every Monday 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Come alone or bring a friend. Family caregivers: Please bring your loved one.

This program is for adults age 60 and over. No registration is required and participation is FREE. Just show up.

Experienced Employees in Transition Career Club

October 24th & November 14th, 2017 (No December Meeting)

Starting January, 2018 the Career Club will meet on the second Tuesday of each month.

Join the Experienced Employees in Transition Career Club. This program is provided by PAA for speakers, workshops, networking, emotional and resource support throughout your job search!
